My family couldn't believe that a wine dinner was something that I could get credit for in a class, but after literally showing them the syllabus we were able to get together a pretty good three course meal of chips and guacamole, steak tacos, and flan which we paired with a sauvignon blanc, a shiraz, and a riesling. Mexican wines were harder to find than anticipated so we just tried to pair with the dishes as best we could.
Course 1- Chips and Guacamole with Kendall Jackson Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Wine- Aroma was of lime with some green apple, with light grassy aroma. The taste was dominating with lime, but not in a bad way, with a good acidity that lingers on the tongue for a while.
Wine and Food- The wine paired extremely well with the guacamole. The wine brought out the lime taste in the guacamole and vice versa, and the freshness of the avocados seemed even more apparent when paired with the wine.
Course 2- Steak Tacos with Yellowtail Shiraz

Wine- Had a grapey, dark fruit smell to it. Very dark in color. Tasted of some blueberry with a spicy finish and some oak. Liked the taste even though I don't usually care much for red wines.
Wine and Food- Individually the components both tasted great, and when putting them together even still they tasted good, but they just didn't really compliment each other in
a way that brought out any new flavors or accentuated any old ones.
Course 3- Flan with Willm Alsace Riesling 2012

| Flan and Riesling |
Wine- It took me a while to identify the way it smelled and tasted, because it smelled and tasted the same way. But once I identified it as a crisp apple I knew that was it. Not a very sweet riesling but I have never had a wine that tasted so much like the one fruit.
Wine and Food- The wine although originally not very sweet, seemed to bring out some more of the sweetness in the flan, as well as the flan brought out a little more sweetness in the wine.
